Meta's Open-Source Astryx Adopts AI for Internationalization and RTL Layouts

Astryx, an open-source design system derived from Meta, has announced support for multiple languages and Right-to-Left (RTL) formatting. Because it was originally built for an English-speaking workforce, its components contained hardcoded English strings and LTR layout assumptions.
To address blockers for developers shipping apps in languages like Arabic, the team used AI assistants to survey the modern i18n landscape and build practical automation tools. This includes an LLM-powered visual diff tool to catch RTL layout bugs that traditional static analysis cannot detect.
