Bridge Editing Published in Science: Precisely Writes Massive Changes into Human Genome

A new DNA editing technology named Bridge editing was published today in Science. It can seamlessly and precisely write massive changes into the correct locations within the human genome.
Current gene editing technologies like CRISPR are limited: they cut DNA and rely on unreliable cellular repair, which George Church famously called "genome vandalism." More precise CRISPR variants can only edit fewer than 100 bases.
Because most diseases result from mutations across multiple locations rather than a single point, existing tools are ill-suited for making safe, large-scale genetic changes. Bridge editing aims to overcome this bottleneck, offering new possibilities for gene therapy.
