Researcher's Talk Scooped by AI-Generated Paper from Audience

analisereal · x · 2026-08-13

A researcher revealed that after giving a talk recently, they discovered a preprint on arXiv just a few weeks later with highly similar ideas, authored by audience members.

While proving direct plagiarism is difficult, the suspected "scooped" paper was of poor quality and scored 90% "AI-written" on the detection tool Pangram. This incident has forced the researcher to rethink the risks of publicly sharing unpublished research findings.
