Sandbar, the startup behind the private voice ring Stream, has raised $36 million to date, including a $23 million Series A led by Adjacent and Kindred Ventures. On TechCrunch's Equity podcast, co-founder and CEO Mina Fahmi discussed why many voice hardware devices have struggled and why he believes keeping the human firmly in control is key to wearable tech success. Stream is designed to be push-to-talk rather than always-on, emphasizing social acceptability. Fahmi's background at CTRL-labs, a neural interface startup acquired by Meta in 2019, influenced his design philosophy.
