Google AI Overviews fail: local search citing low-quality self-promotional listicles
gaganghotra_ · x · 2026-08-13
SEO experts have discovered that when Google triggers AI Overviews for local search results, it frequently cites low-quality, self-promotional listicle articles.
For instance, when displaying a list of law firms, Google's AI pulled information from a single lawyer's promotional listicle, using it as the primary source and linking to it instead of the actual law firms' websites. This reliance on spammy content undermines the reliability of AI-generated search results.
