Grok Offers 85% Discount Over OpenAI with Similar Performance
GavinSBaker · x · 2026-08-13
Tech researcher Gavin S. Baker argues that even after OpenAI's recent price cuts, Grok and Cursor maintain absolute Pareto dominance in value.
He notes that Grok 4.6 delivers roughly the same performance as OpenAI's flagship model but at an 85% discount (80% cheaper for input tokens and 88% cheaper for output tokens). He also mentions that the upcoming Grok 4.7 will be a significantly larger model, incorporating Cursor and SpaceX data into its pretraining, which is expected to boost performance substantially.
