A new Gallup survey reveals that 71% of Americans oppose constructing AI data centers in their local area, with nearly half (48%) strongly opposed. Only about a quarter favor these projects.
Notably, this opposition surpasses the 53% who oppose local nuclear power plant construction. Residents' primary concerns center on environmental impacts, massive electricity and water consumption, and the potential for higher local electric bills.
