ComfyUI renders short videos maxing out 24GB VRAM, while long videos trigger memory optimization
NetworkSpecial3268 · reddit · 2026-08-12
A user encountered a counterintuitive VRAM allocation issue while rendering videos in ComfyUI. Despite setting the --reserve-vram 2 parameter to keep the system responsive, it was completely ignored during short video generation, maxing out the 24GB VRAM and freezing the PC.
Interestingly, when rendering longer 15-20 second videos, a mechanism kicks in that significantly lowers VRAM usage. The author prefers this slower but less resource-intensive behavior and wishes it applied to short clips as well.
