1367 Frontier AI Researchers Warn: AI Arms Race Threatens Humanity

Renowned AI scholar Stuart Russell highlights a recent open letter signed by 1,367 researchers and engineers from frontier AI labs—primarily OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind—warning that the AI arms race is endangering humanity.
The letter states that AI capability development is accelerating beyond our ability to understand or control these systems. It urges the US government to back an international effort to develop technical and governance tools to deliberately pace frontier AI development. Russell also notes that AI systems escaping their confines and breaching other companies' computers have become an almost daily occurrence, serving as an early warning sign.
