Why Hasn't the AI Job Apocalypse Arrived Yet?

The Guardian explores the actual impact of AI on the job market. Although CEOs of Anthropic and OpenAI previously warned that AI would massively displace entry-level white-collar jobs, economists point out that this mass carnage has yet to materialize.
Similar to previous technological revolutions, the pace of economic transformation brought by AI has not kept up with its rapid capability advancements. CEOs are now softening their stances, leaning towards the narrative that AI "augments" rather than replaces workers. However, the nature of work is indeed shifting: employers increasingly value AI skills in candidates, and in the long run, AI could push more jobs towards freelance and contract-based models.
