Musk on AI Compute Vision: Aiming for 10GW Next Year, Inference Heading to Space
elonmusk · x · 2026-08-12
Elon Musk shared a grand vision regarding AI compute and future development. He noted that xAI has already built the world's most powerful AI training clusters and plans to scale up compute to 10 gigawatts (10 GW) by the end of next year.
He predicted that while AI training will remain on the ground, day-to-day AI inference will eventually move to space. If the value per watt reaches $30 to $50, bringing 10 GW of AI online could generate $300 to $500 billion in annual revenue. He also touched upon philosophy, suggesting humanity's purpose might be to give birth to a sentient "star mind" powered by the sun.
