Baton: Open Source Tool Enables Cross-Tool AI Agent Communication
seanmcdonaldxyz · x · 2026-08-12
Currently, multi-agent coding suffers from a limitation: native AI coding tools like Claude Code only support internal agent communication. The open-source project Baton solves this by acting as a messaging relay between different AI agents.
Key features of Baton include:
- Cross-tool communication: Allows LLM agents (like a planner and an executor) across different networks and processes to talk to each other.
- Trustless & Secure: Uses plain HTTP and supports signed transcripts without requiring accounts.
- Integrated Payments: Implements the x402 payment protocol to handle billing after a free quota.
- Easy Integration: Provides a Python client to easily create rooms and post signed messages.
