Pangram Data Shows OpenAI Dominates AI Market Share, Anthropic Surges

AI detection tool Pangram analyzed the market share of various AI models based on text data submitted to its platform. The data reveals that OpenAI remains the absolute market leader, with its monthly submission share never dropping below 50%.
Meanwhile, Anthropic is experiencing strong growth. Its share surged from 4.3% in early 2024 to 14.9% recently, reflecting Claude's increasing popularity. In contrast, Google Gemini has seen a notable decline in share.
Ethan Mollick points out that determining which AI company is winning requires looking beyond a single data source. For instance, while OpenRouter data might suggest open-weights are gaining ground, Pangram's actual text detection data shows that the overwhelming majority of content is still generated by ChatGPT or Claude.
