Archaeologists and AI researchers have successfully trained a neural network capable of translating 5,000-year-old Akkadian cuneiform directly into English. Cuneiform is one of the earliest writing systems, and researchers have uncovered hundreds of thousands of clay tablets. Akkadian, an early Semitic language spoken in ancient Mesopotamia, can now be automatically deciphered by this AI model, opening a new window into historical research.
