A recent discussion highlights the phenomenon of "AI-native" PhD students who appear highly productive by using generative AI for all major parts of their research, yet fall into the trap of "cargo cult science."
This rush to produce quick papers ultimately harms the students and offers no real long-term benefit. In response, even pro-GenAI professors are urging students to write more without AI assistance and publish fewer papers to cultivate genuine research skills.
