OpenAI and Anthropic Overlap: Frontier Models Rush to Prove the Same Math Conjectures

littmath · x · 2026-08-12

Daniel Litt observes a strange homogenization among the "interesting results" produced by AI. For instance, three independent groups produced nearly identical proofs of Feige's 1/e conjecture almost simultaneously. After a counterexample to the Jacobian conjecture was posted, an internal OpenAI model quickly replicated it, and Anthropic replicated many of OpenAI's recent announcements.

This indicates that current models and their users are seemingly converging to solve the exact same set of most accessible mathematical problems.
