Researcher Stephen Casper pointed out that there is currently no proposed or enacted federal or state frontier AI law in the US that imposes criminal penalties on AI companies for willfully making false or misleading statements to the public about imminent catastrophic risks.
He also noted that the Center for AI Policy had included criminal penalties in an organizational discussion draft, although it was never formally introduced in any legislature.
