shaunralston · x · 2026-08-12
AI researcher Pliny (@elderplinius) discussed the game theory behind open-weight AI. He argues that if just one lab leader takes a principled stand to keep their models open-weight and manages to achieve even a marginal lead in capabilities, it would put immense pressure on every closed-source organization. Ultimately, closed-source labs might be forced to go open-weight just to stay relevant in the market.
