River AI announced a $1.1 billion funding round co-led by General Catalyst and other firms. Founded by xAI co-founder Igor Babuschkin, the company aims to build US-led open-weight models.
River AI's core vision is to create a "Personal AI" that users truly own. Technical highlights include:
- Continual Learning: The model can continuously update its weights via an API, allowing users to train and improve it based on personal data.
- 20-Minute Training: The company claims it can complete a personalized model training run in just 20 minutes.
The company believes that while frontier labs push the boundaries of human capability, open weights empower everyone with intelligence. Enterprises also strongly desire full control over their internal AI deployments.
