Research published in Nature Machine Intelligence suggests that simply adding more agents does not equate to better AI performance.
The study indicates that as underlying language models become more capable, the marginal benefits of multi-agent collaboration eventually diminish. Consequently, the core challenge in AI system design is shifting from "scaling agent teams" to "choosing the right coordination strategies."
