OpenAI's Head of Ethics Quits After Less Than a Year, Leaving Safety Team Short-Handed

OpenAI's head of ethics has resigned after less than a year in the role, with no reported replacement, according to the Financial Times. She was the company's only dedicated ethicist, focusing on model development, human-AI interaction, and machine consciousness.

This continues a recent trend of high-profile departures from OpenAI's safety and mission-focused teams. In July, safety systems lead Johannes Heidecke and chief futurist Joshua Achiam also left the company.
