NYU Professor Predicted AI Would Permanently Change Math 6 Months Ago

Following recent breakthroughs in AI mathematical reasoning, an old podcast clip has resurfaced. The host recalled interviewing NYU professor Julia Kempe in December last year. Even though models were far from solving open math problems at the time, Kempe astutely claimed that "math as we know it has changed forever, and so has the work of mathematicians. The problem is they don't know it yet." She emphasized that researchers should look beyond what AI can currently solve and focus on the next frontiers of mathematical research.
