NVIDIA, Google, and Microsoft Jointly Push 800VDC Datacenter Power Architecture

As AI compute demand surges, traditional AC power distribution in datacenters creates bottlenecks due to conversion overhead. NVIDIA highlights that distributing power via high-voltage direct current (800 VDC) minimizes conversion stages, delivering more power directly to GPUs.

NVIDIA, Google, and Microsoft are jointly developing the 800 VDC architecture through the Open Compute Project (OCP), with over 80 equipment manufacturers already participating. For existing facilities, NVIDIA will release an MGX-compatible 800 VDC hybrid power rack in the second half of 2026 to enable a smooth transition.
