Zhipu's ZCode Major Update: Goal Mode and Subagents for Autonomous Coding
智谱 · wechat · 2026-08-11
Zhipu's official coding tool ZCode announced a major upgrade aimed at enabling agents to autonomously complete complex tasks with minimal human intervention.
Core Feature Upgrades
- Goal Mode: Users set a verifiable goal (e.g., load time <2s and all tests pass). ZCode automatically decomposes tasks, modifies code, runs tests, and iterates until the goal is met.
- Subagents: Introduces General-purpose (for coding/fixes) and Explore (read-only analysis) subagents for parallel collaboration, reducing main context usage.
- RemoteControl: Temporarily opens the desktop workspace to mobile browsers. Developers can track progress or input commands directly via WeChat/Feishu while code executes locally.
- Idle Tasks: Automatically executes long-running tasks during off-peak hours without deducting user credits.
Performance & Economics
- In its internal real-world simulation benchmark (Z.aiCodeBench), GLM-5.2 + ZCode achieved a 2.39% higher overall task pass rate than when paired with Claude Code, excelling in cross-file complex tasks.
- Optimized context caching (over 98% hit rate) combined with a limited-time 1.5x quota boost effectively provides nearly 1.8x the standard token usage capacity. All user quotas have also been fully reset.
