Anthropic to embed watermarks in Claude outputs complying with EU AI Act

cjimti · x · 2026-08-11

Anthropic has signed the EU AI Act's Article 50(2) Code of Practice on transparency for AI-generated content. The company commits that new Claude models launched in the EU on or after August 2, 2026, will support machine-readable marking from day one. Generated text will carry embedded watermarks, and generated files will include digitally signed provenance metadata.

These marks will apply universally across the API, Claude web interface, and Claude Code. Anthropic also plans to help users and third parties detect these marks and is currently working to add marking support for existing models.
