Anthropic Details Claude Content Watermarking, Expanding Enterprise Compliance
sanjaykalra · x · 2026-08-11
Anthropic recently published how Claude marks AI-generated content. For text, an imperceptible watermark is woven in at the model level, surviving copy-pasting across all surfaces including the API, Claude UI, and major cloud platforms. For files like PNG and JPG, C2PA signed provenance metadata is applied. Models launched on or after August 2, 2026, will carry this at launch.
The author notes the enterprise implications run wider than standard compliance. For a CIO, this marking applies worldwide wherever Claude is offered, meaning companies cannot simply scope compliance to an EU tenant and move on, significantly widening the provenance surface.
