Open source maintainer on AI code contributions: quality improved but review bottleneck, may brutally reject PRs

Daniel Lemire, a well-known open source developer, shares his experience with AI code contributions: early this year, many low-quality AI contributions were annoying, but quality has improved in the last two months. However, he is swamped with outstanding PRs, and review is the bottleneck. He worries about nonlinear effects, where optimizations may improve one benchmark while hurting another, so he prefers to slow down. He anticipates having to deliberately and brutally dismiss a large fraction of contributions.
