Anthropic Embeds Invisible Watermarks and C2PA Metadata in Claude Outputs
dr_cintas · x · 2026-08-11
Anthropic officially announced that Claude now embeds invisible watermarks and provenance metadata across all generated text and files by default.
- Text Watermark: Woven directly into the text, it is imperceptible, preserves meaning and readability, and is machine-readable.
- File Metadata: For multimedia files like .svg and .png, it uses the C2PA open standard for signed provenance to verify if a file has been tampered with.
- Coverage: Applied at the model level, the watermark appears whether accessed via the API, Claude web interface, or major cloud platforms. Models launched after August 2, 2026, will support it from day one.
