Amidst a barrage of claimed AI math breakthroughs, researcher Gautam Kamath points out that the general public usually evaluates these results based on the age of the problem and the hype generated by the poster. Neither is a great proxy for quality. He reminds us that most mathematical results can only be judged by a handful of experts, and those promoting the results are rarely disinterested parties.
