Amazon's AI ambitions will soon be partly fueled by a natural gas-burning power plant in Texas, which The New York Times reports could become the largest single source of climate pollution in the US.

Burning fossil fuels for data centers produces harmful pollutants accelerating climate change. Previously, Elon Musk's xAI also sparked severe public backlash for relying on gas turbines to power its massive Colossus AI data center. As compute demand surges, off-the-grid AI data centers are facing intense environmental scrutiny.
