European Data Sovereignty Tightens: Local Open-Source AI Becomes a Must

The author argues that industries dealing with confidential or sensitive data should stop treating proprietary cloud AI as the default, opting instead to run open-source models locally. European legal associations already view on-premises AI as the most secure option for confidentiality.
This strict scrutiny regarding data sovereignty is expected to spread from France across Europe and all professions built on trust. Consequently, offering genuinely local or self-hosted modes will be essential for AI services in Europe, as a mere contract does not guarantee data sovereignty.
