Sakana AI Launches RSI Lab: Building AI that Builds AI for the Physical World

Sakana AI announced the establishment of the Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI) Lab in Tokyo, dedicated to redesigning the AI development process using AI itself. The lab aims to transition from human-led R&D to autonomous, self-improving intelligence engines.
The lab's next frontier is Physical AI, focusing on building world models that allow agentic systems to simulate, plan, and act in the real world. This initiative builds on previous research foundations:
- LLM²: AI models automating research to invent better preference optimization algorithms.
- Darwin Gödel Machine: Agents autonomously rewriting their codebase to double software-engineering performance.
- ShinkaEvolve: Hyper-sample-efficient evolutionary strategies.
The lab is currently hiring full-time researchers and interns, led by CEO David Ha.
