Microsoft is negotiating with TSMC to secure capacity for over 300,000 next-gen Maia 300 AI chips in 2027, with an ultimate target of exceeding 1 million units, The Information reports. The company plans to unveil the Maia 300 as early as September.
The move aims to reduce reliance on Nvidia and attract major Azure clients like Anthropic. Microsoft's current Maia 200 chips reportedly already operate 30%-40% cheaper than cutting-edge Nvidia chips for OpenAI and Microsoft models.
