Musk's Terafab: Building a Recursive Industrial Stack for AI Chips

Elon Musk's proposed chip factory, Terafab, aims to fundamentally rethink semiconductor manufacturing. It will technically house two fabs dedicated to single chip designs, utilizing a simpler, more linear process to maximize volume and continuously test for steps that can be removed or accelerated.
The core operating principle is that any machine acting as a rate limiter will be redesigned. The author argues this is not ordinary vertical integration, but the creation of the first recursive industrial system.
By tightly connecting AI, coding systems, chip architecture, mask design, fabrication, and end products, the system feeds telemetry from every layer into the next generation. The ultimate goal is to drastically shorten the iteration loop (with a research fab aiming to return silicon in under seven days), thereby maximizing the learning rate of the entire stack.
