Chinese EV giant BYD is officially entering the humanoid robot race and is set to unveil its internally developed robot, codenamed "Xiao Di," in August.

Specs & Layout: Standing 1.61 meters tall and weighing 58.5 kg, the robot features 31 degrees of freedom and can speak six Chinese dialects and six foreign languages. BYD quietly formed an internal robotics team in 2022 and previously integrated UBTECH’s Walker S1 robots into its automotive workshops for material handling training.

Strategic Edge: BYD executives emphasized that car companies have a massive advantage in AI tech (from autonomous driving), manufacturing, and hardware. If robots eventually head into homes, BYD could leverage its massive nationwide dealer network for sales.
