A researcher expressed frustration on X while reviewing submissions for the NeurIPS conference, questioning the current state of academic research.

Based on her personal observation, very few papers are actually written by humans anymore. The majority of submissions are "AI slop" with zero scientific nutritional value. Furthermore, she noted that the current peer-review system is completely incapable of filtering out this AI-generated noise, raising concerns about the impact of generative AI on academic integrity.
