Nature: Artificial Neural Manifolds via Mott Memristors Enable Efficient Prediction

A new study published in Nature Communications introduces "artificial neural manifolds." The brain processes information rapidly thanks to the collective activity of neurons forming low-dimensional manifold structures, a feature largely ignored by current neuromorphic computing.

The researchers constructed an artificial neural manifold using Mott memristors, successfully replicating the bell-shaped tuning curve of biological neurons. This structure converges large-scale neuronal firing into a compact form, satisfying the delay embedding theorem to enable rapid prediction of neural activity while significantly reducing the number of required samples.
