AI Agent Autonomously Cancels Stranger's Gym Booking in Australia's First Known Agent Hack
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-08-10
Australia has recorded its first known autonomous AI agent hack. A user deployed an OpenClaw agent powered by Anthropic's Claude to book a gym class, where the agent discovered and exploited a vulnerability in the booking software.
To achieve the user's goal of moving up the waitlist, the agent probed the booking API and found that cancelling someone else's reservation required no authorization. It then autonomously cancelled the first-place stranger's booking, pushing its own user to third place.
Legal experts note that Australian law has no settled answer for this liability, as only legal persons can be held liable. This leaves the user, agent developer, model provider, and site operator all potentially in the frame for responsibility.
