Harvard and MIT Built MatrAIx, an 8.3B Person AI Simulation

Harvard and MIT have developed MatrAIx, a population-scale digital simulation infrastructure containing 8.3 billion virtual people, roughly the entire global population.
Powered by frontier models like GPT and Claude, the core of the project is an insanely detailed dataset called Persona 8B. It contains 8.3 billion unique digital profiles, with each persona defined across 1,290 categorical dimensions.
These dimensions cover backgrounds, psychology, spending habits, behavioral quirks, and technical literacy. Researchers have placed these billions of persona agents into four distinct digital environments to observe complex social dynamics.
