Sakana AI Validates Gemma 4-Based Conductor Model for Multi-Agent Orchestration
SakanaAILabs · x · 2026-08-10
Sakana AI released a blog post detailing the latest progress on its multi-agent orchestration product, Sakana Fugu. Fugu uses a two-tier architecture: a 'Model Pool' for actual computation and a 'Conductor Model' for task allocation.
The team recently validated a new Conductor Model trained using Gemma 4 (E2B) as the base. Results from their internal evaluation set (covering knowledge, code generation/modification, and graduate-level science) show that this open-source based Conductor not only matches the performance of the previous Qwen-based version but also maintains identical cost-reduction effects.
The team notes this proves the Conductor Model is highly modularizable. Moving forward, they plan to support Conductor Models trained on their proprietary domestic models to meet sovereign AI requirements in specific scenarios, while continuing to integrate access to top-tier overseas models.
