Leak: OpenAI's Upcoming 10T Parameter 'Astra' Model Writes Like a Human
iruletheworldmo · x · 2026-08-10
According to leaks, OpenAI previously struggled with pre-training but turned things around using a large pre-train codenamed Spud, which spawned models like Sol, Terra, and Luna.
Their highly anticipated upcoming model, codenamed Astra, is built on an even larger pre-train called Doug and is estimated to be a 10T parameter model (Sol is 5T). OpenAI researchers are reportedly very excited about Astra, claiming it crushes the internal model Fable on benchmarks, exhibits high EQ (giving off GPT-4.5 vibes), and is the first model to possess incredible writing skills indistinguishable from great human writers.
