Google Open-Sources $80 Offline AI Translator Running Gemma on Raspberry Pi

Google and its Antigravity team have open-sourced a prototype AI translator that runs entirely offline. Built on a Raspberry Pi 5 with a microphone and speaker in a 3D-printed case, the device requires no internet connection.

It leverages Gemma 4 E2B, Google's smallest open-weight model, to process speech locally. This showcases the potential of edge AI for scenarios lacking connectivity, such as travel, emergency response, or handling sensitive conversations. It is currently a technology showcase rather than a commercial product.
