GeoLibre Lets You Open Cloud Geospatial Data Directly via URL in Browser
giswqs · x · 2026-08-10
GeoLibre has introduced a new Open in GeoLibre badge, allowing users to open remote geospatial datasets via a URL and instantly render them as interactive maps in the browser. This eliminates the need for software installation or user logins.
Supported data formats include:
- Vector: GeoJSON, GeoParquet, PMTiles, and ZIP archives containing multiple GeoJSON layers.
- Raster: Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF and raster PMTiles.
- APIs: Any REST endpoint returning a GeoJSON FeatureCollection.
Additionally, formats like COG, GeoParquet, and PMTiles stream over HTTP range requests, meaning multi-gigabyte files can be explored without being fully downloaded. All processing runs entirely client-side.
