Reviving the 1985 Classic Interactive Fiction with Codex
emollick · x · 2026-08-10
Wharton professor Ethan Mollick shared a case study of using AI coding tools to revive a classic game. The 1985 interactive fiction A Mind Forever Voyaging was recently open-sourced.
He used OpenAI's Codex to quickly build a modern web GUI for this classic game. The new interface retains the original narrative while offering multiple interaction modes, including the classic command line, guided clickable navigation, and action menus, significantly lowering the barrier to entry for modern players.
