Cathie Wood of ARK Invest pushes back against the narrative that open weight models will steal spend from frontier labs. She argues that as open weight capabilities increase, bad actors using them will force companies to continually spend at the frontier to protect themselves.
Consequently, open weight models will actually accelerate frontier lab uptake and adoption across enterprises. Infrastructure without a frontier defense force will fall to rogues traversing the open internet. She concludes that the only choice for companies is to aggressively adopt AI or die.
