Since the launch of ChatGPT, the offshore outsourcing industry in the Philippines—which accounts for 8% of the country's GDP—has grown significantly rather than shrinking. Employment rose by 20% to 1.9 million workers, and industry revenue surged 30% to $42B.
Reports indicate that AI is helping local workers take on more complex new tasks, such as training AI models, supervising AI agents, and handling advanced insurance and medical record audits for US hospitals. AI lowers the barrier to learning complex skills, allowing high-value work like accounting and engineering to be outsourced more cost-effectively.
