Professor Alex Dimitis shared an article revealing that GPT-5.6 and Claude Fable appear to have settled an open theoretical question in wireless communications that stumped academics for 25 years.
He argues this breakthrough highlights a new paradigm for theoretical research: as superintelligence looms, proof complexity is no longer the bottleneck. Instead, the focus shifts to verifying correctness, elementary steps, and good storytelling.
He noted that the AI's initial proof was correct but unreadable, filled with exotic matrix-analysis and probability machinery. He spent days prompting the models to break down the massive components into the dumbest, simplest possible steps to finally digest the proof.
