DeepMind CEO Predicts AGI by 2030 and All Diseases Cured Within 20 Years

In an interview with The Times, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis made highly optimistic predictions about the future of AI. He believes we will achieve AGI around 2030, give or take a year.
Hassabis recently stepped down voluntarily from his CEO role, viewing AGI as essentially solved and believing the more urgent task is setting up infrastructure for super-intelligent systems to do lab work. He expects maybe half a dozen to a dozen AlphaFold-level breakthroughs over the next 20 years, leading to cures for all diseases. Expressing strong confidence, he noted that he has bigger fish to fry than worrying about quarterly projections or the horse race with OpenAI.
