Epoch AI: Global AI Chips to Reach 200 Million by 2028, Doubling Every 9 Months

The New York Times reports that AI technology is facing an inescapable deluge of computing power. According to research firm Epoch AI, there are currently about 20 million AI chips in data centers worldwide, a figure that is doubling roughly every nine months.
At this pace, the global count of AI chips is projected to reach 200 million by the end of 2028—ten times current levels. Hundreds of major data centers currently under construction globally will soon come online, providing unprecedented computing power to sustain AI's rapid evolution.
