Insitro founder and CEO Daphne Koller published a detailed essay pushing back against the tech world's fantasy that superintelligence will easily cure all diseases.
She argues that our understanding of human biology remains highly limited, meaning powerful AI reasoning alone cannot magically discover cures from existing knowledge. The real bottleneck is finding new disease mechanisms, not just finding drugs for known mechanisms. AI-assisted, causally focused exploration is the necessary precondition for transformative breakthroughs in medicine.
